Château du Retout is situated in the prestigious Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux. Like many estates in the region, it faced immense challenges during the late 19th century phylloxera crisis and the devastation of World War I. These events led to the disappearance of numerous small Médoc vineyards, including Château Retout-Rosset, despite its classification as a Crus Bourgeois.
The estate was revived in the 1950s when the Kopp family acquired it, carefully reconstituting and replanting the vineyards with patience and dedication. Today, Château du Retout is a boutique winery celebrated as an insider’s secret among wine connoisseurs, offering wines of elegance and distinction.
Their “Espérance” cuvée is a classic Médoc blend, composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. The 2016 vintage, widely regarded as exceptional, delivers a harmonious wine with an aromatic bouquet of red berries, plums, and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is rich and balanced, with refined tannins and a lingering finish. Espérance pairs beautifully with beef, game, or your favorite cheeses, making every meal a true Bordeaux experience.
