Nestled in the storybook village of Deidesheim, in the heart of the southern Palatinate’s sun-kissed Mittelhaardt region, lies the historic Bassermann-Jordan winery. With roots stretching back over 300 years, the estate began when Pierre Jordan acquired the family’s first vineyards in the Pfalz. From these humble beginnings, Bassermann-Jordan grew to become a cornerstone of German viticulture, helping to shape the country’s winemaking tradition through generations. Even Johann Wolfgang von Goethe—Germany’s beloved poet and noted wine enthusiast—was among its early admirers and customers in the 19th century.
Today, Bassermann-Jordan’s wines are celebrated as quintessential expressions of Palatinate Riesling, consistently ranked among Germany’s finest.
This particular Riesling hails from the VDP Erste Lage (Premier Cru) vineyard site of Ruppertsberger Spiess. The vineyards surrounding the charming village of Ruppertsberg are renowned for yielding some of the Pfalz’s most exceptional Rieslings. Thanks to the area’s warm, sunny microclimate, the wines here tend to be fuller, richer, and more opulent than those from almost any other region in Germany—delivering a signature depth and ripeness that sets them apart.
